Buying a high quality straight razor is a waste of money if you don’t get the best straight razor blades to go with it. To get the close, lasting shave you want you need to know what the best straight razor blades are, so we’ve reviewed them all to find our top five.

Feather Hi-Stainless Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades Review

These razor blades really do feel light as a feather on your skin, but don’t press too hard because they are as sharp as they come. They also stayed sharp for me after over a half a dozen shaves, probably because they’re platinum coated. Be aware that this is a double edged razor, so it may not be suitable for all razors.

Pros: Very sharp, stay sharp, platinum coated

Cons: Double edged so not suitable for all razors

Schick Injector Blades Review

Many older gentlemen I know have been using these blades for years, so I decided to give them a try. They cut through my thick hair with ease and don’t leave my skin feeling irritated. They’ve been around for so long, you know they have to be one of the best straight razor blades available. They didn’t last quite as long as others, but they’re quite well priced so I don’t mind!

Pros: Tried and tested, sharp, cuts through thick hair easily, no irritation

Cons: Don’t last as long as others

Derby Professional Single Edge Razor Blades Review

These blades are incredibly good value and highly effective. They’re also very versatile, fitting into any razor imaginable. When I first picked one up it felt light and flimsy but I was wrong! It’s definitely one of the best straight razor blades I’ve ever used. After using it a few times, I don’t get the impression it would quite make it through longer hair, but as a starter straight razor blade it’s more than enough.

Pros: Cheap, effective, versatile

Cons: Not enough for long hair

Merkur Razor Blades Review

If you already own a Merkur razor, then you know the standard of quality to expect when you buy these blades. They fit perfectly into Merkur razors but also into other brands too. Made in Germany, the materials used make them perfect for men like me with sensitive skin who need to shave every morning. No more nicks, cuts and ingrown hairs and definitely no shaving rash! Again, these blades don’t last quite as long as others which is a shame.

Pros: Made in Germany, good for sensitive skin that needs to be shaved daily

Cons: Doesn’t last as long as others

Shark Super Stainless Straight Edge Barber Razor Blades Review

What I love about these razors is they each come individually wrapped, which to me is sign from the manufacturer that they think they’ll be sitting in your cupboard for a while. Why? Because they’re so sharp that you won’t be using a new one every time you shave! Even though they are super fine, they are incredibly durable and aren’t going to snap if you apply a bit of pressure in the wrong direction. They’re also really cheap per blade, which is a bonus. Make sure you are using a compatible razor though, otherwise you’ll be left with a box of very good quality gunk scrapers.

Pros: Individually wrapped blades, last for more than a few shaves, fine but durable, cheap

Cons: Not compatible with all razors
